Lieutenant Commander Salomee Briggs currently serves as the Prevention Law Branch Chief for the Coast Guard’s Seventh District in Miami, Florida. She is responsible for advising Coast Guard commanders in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico regarding international and
domestic maritime safety and security regulations, including maritime pollution prevention regulations, waterways management, navigation safety, commercial vessel, port and facility operations, marine casualty investigations, domestic inspections, and port state control exams. Prior to this assignment, Lieutenant Commander Briggs served as a Coast Guard Appellate Defense Attorney where she was responsible for briefing and arguing cases before the Coast Guard Court of Criminal Appeals, the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals and the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. Lieutenant Commander Briggs’ 12 years of Coast Guard service also include assignments as the chief of Domestic Vessel and Facility Inspections at Sector Maryland-National Capital Region (NCR) and as a Marine Inspector at Sector Juneau, Alaska.

A graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder class of 2006, Lieutenant Commander Briggs holds a B.A. in International Affairs. She also holds a M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy from Schiller International University and a M.A. in Marine Transportation and Logistics Management from American Military University. Lieutenant Commander Briggs earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Law School in May 2017, with a concentration in environmental law.
