AJ is a partner at Cooper & Bilbrey, P.C. in Charleston, SC. Cooper & Bilbrey handles cases primarily in maritime law, business litigation, and construction defects. AJ received his law degree from the Charleston School of Law where he served as President of the Student Bar Association and was awarded a certificate of merit for outstanding performance.

After receiving his undergraduate degree in Business Administration at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN, AJ enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on active duty for four years. His first duty station was aboard the cutter AXE, a construction tender home ported in Morgan City, LA servicing aids to navigation. He served the remaining years as a tactical coxswain at the small boat search and rescue station in New London, CT where he was awarded the Coast Guard Achievement Medal for superior performance.

He also serves as a board member for the nonprofit organization Clap Your Hands where the purpose is to provide therapeutic products to special needs children free of charge. AJ is a licensed diver and boat captain and enjoys spending time on the water with his wife Elizabeth, daughter Lily, and the family dog of 15 years, Miley. He has been a member of SEALI since 2017.
